How to spread leveling compound correctly?
Only a leveling compound that is correctly distributed on the surface to be leveled can really fulfill its purpose. However, with modern products and the right tools or accessories, it is no problem to distribute the leveling compound adequately in this respect too.
What needs to be considered when spreading leveling compound?
The first step is to check the condition and strength of the substrate. Accordingly, the substrate must be stabilized and cleaned before spreading the levelling compound. Then apply a primer or bonding bridge (depending on the substrate material). Once this primer is completely dry, the leveling compound can be mixed and then spread. In most cases, universal primer is used. Two-component epoxy resin is also used.
What tools do I need to spread the leveling compound?
It is always best to mix the leveling compound in small quantities. For example, a mortar bucket. Consequently, it should be mixed with the amount of water specified by the manufacturer. A agitator is helpful for this. This can either be an attachment for the drill or a device specially built for this purpose.
The ready-mixed leveling compound is now poured over the floor. It is generally self-leveling. In order to blur the differences between the successively mixed leveling compounds, a so-called notched trowel is used. This also accelerates the flow of the leveling compound. It is also possible to determine where and how much leveling compound is still required.
The material is thenrolledoff using a so-called nail roller . This is done after the leveling compound has been completely poured into the surface. This serves to remove any air bubbles. As a result, better stability is achieved. A smoother surface of the leveling compound can therefore be achieved. To ensure that no footprints remain on the surface during this final work step, Nail shoes are used.
